Donnie “D Major” Boynton

"The Donn-Group"

Born to Cecelia Boynton and Augustus Mitchell in 1976, this Detroit Native is making an impact in his community and throughout the nation.  Soon after his birth in the Outer Drive Hospital, Donnie was taken in and reared by his loving grandparents, Samuel and Lorease Boynton.   Their love and support proved to be just the catalyst needed for this enthusiastic young man to begin his artistic development and pursuit of a life in the performing arts.

Donnie, or D Major as he is widely known, first began playing the drums in 1978 at the early age of two.  Throughout the early stages of his childhood, he continued to develop his percussion skills until the age of fourteen when he expanded his performing arts prowess to include acting and playing multiple key induced instruments such as the keyboard, piano, and organ.  His compassion for the arts coupled with his devotion to excellence compelled him to pursue a career in musical production at the age of twenty, and within two years he was producing professionally.

Donnie’s skills as a musician and producer gained him national notoriety and landed him as a keyboardist on UPN’s “The Vibe Show” hosted by comedian/actor Sinbad.  Donnie has accompanied several mainstream artists across several genres including The Lox, DMX, Little Kim, Mase, Vickie Winans, Dorothy Norwood, Kim Burrell, Tye Tribett, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Algebra, and has opened for Israel Houghton and New Breed.  Production samples of his music can be found on such tracks as Destiny’s Child’s “Now That She’s Gone,” Boyz to Men’s “What You Need,” Roybin’s “Giving you Back,” Mario Winans’ Don’t Take Your Love Away,”  and Jeff Majors’ “I’m a Beggar” remix featuring Gerald Levert.

In addition to his involvement accompanying vocal artists, Donnie has served as musical director for several theatrical productions such as “Sweet Potato Pie,” “Why is Loving You Hurting Me,” “Step in the Name of Love,” “Saints on Trial,” and “Only the Strong.”  In 2005, he toured the country as a band member assisting with musical arrangements on the set of Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns.”

This ambitious musician/songwriter/playwright, shares his life with his most prized productions, his wife: Joanna Boynton and his sons: Samuel, DJ, David, and Dior.

When not working Donnie’s extracurricular activities include viewing movies, bowling, basketball, air hockey, drawing and building.

Donnie Boynton is a man of integrity, compassion, and aspiration who believes that the definition of success is making a profound impact on the people and places one encounters.   He hopes to one day change the world by providing serious opportunities for individuals seeking to explore the musical arts.  His future endeavors include movie scoring, owning a production company, and creating a musicians’ agency for local talent.  His life goal is to leave behind a legacy in which he, his sons, and his God can be proud.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
